A Commentary (ممزوج) on the تلخيص المفتاح , by SA’D AL-DÎN TAFTÂZÂNÎ (d. A.H. 792). This is the earlier and larger of his two commentaries, commonly called المطوَّل . It was completed A.H. 748, and dedicated to Mu׳izz al-dîn Abu’l-Ḥusain Muḥammad Kart, Sultan of Harât. See Ḥ. Kh. ii. 404; Flügel, Hdss. Wien, i. 218; Aumer, Hdss. Münch. 310; Mehren, Rhetorik, p. 8; etc. This work was printed at Constantinople, A.H. 1260. The first portion of it was also printed at Lakhnau, A.H. 1265.

Carefully written. The colophon runs as follows: تم الكتاب المبارك بعون الله تع و حسن توفيقه على يد العبد الفقير همزة ( sic ) بن حاجى خليل . To this has subsequently been added و حرر فى اوايل خماذى ( sic ) :

الاولى من شهور سنة ثلثين ¹ و ثمانين و ثمانه مائه.

The earlier portion (foll. 4v.-52) of this volume is in a different hand, but of about the same date. The author’s preface, which had been omitted, has been subsequently added from an old MS. (foll. 1-3). Notes.

A slight defect after fol. 24; a larger one after fol. 52.
