Theory of Variation on the Basis of an Open Digital Edition of the Greek New Testament

Our project „Theory of Variation on the Basis of an Open Digital Edition of the Greek New Testament“ of the Cluster of Excellence Religion and Politics examines the emergence of variants in the transmission of the text of Acts. Our purpose is to study whether the qualitative categories of Textual Criticism (e.g. lectio brevior) can be checked from a quantitative perspective. With the data of the online Editio Critica Maior we are creating a morphologically tagged apparatus of the text of Acts. With these data we can then answer questions like e.g. Where do we find the most variants? What is the most frequent type of variation etc.
