A convenient synthesis of substituted bis-[1,2,4]-dithiazolidines has been developed by using the environmentfriendly technique of microwave irradiation. The microwave-assisted synthesis of several members of the titled class has been achieved by the interaction of 1-{4-[4-(3-aryl thiocarbamido)-3-nitro/carboxy-benzyl]-2-nitro/carboxy-phenyl}- 3-aryl thiocarbamides with N-phenyl-S-chloro isothiocarbamoyl chloride under solvent-free condition, followed by basification with dilute ammonium hydroxide solution. Initially, 1-{4-[4-(3-aryl thiocarbamido)-3-nitro/carboxy-benzyl]- 2-nitro/carboxy-phenyl}-3-aryl thiocarbamides were prepared by irradiating the mixtures of different aryl isothiocyanates with 4,4´-methylene-bis-(2-nitro-aniline)/(anthranilic acid) under microwave for specified time. The constitutions of synthesized compounds have been delineated on the basis of chemical transformation, elemental analysis, equivalent weight determination, IR and 1H NMR spectral studies.
