Cumulative Impact Analysis: affinamento della metodologia e delle stime di impatti cumulativi

The report presents synthetically the geospatial analysis performed for cumulative impact
assessment from anthropogenic activities in the Adriatic Region. The aim of the analysis is to
support activities on ICZM and MSP through methodological advancements compared to the EU
project ADRIPLAN (ADRiatic Ionian maritime spatial PLANning).
Initially, the report presents a model for cumulative impact assessment (CI ADRIPLAN 1)
developed during the project ADRIPLAN, its theoretical and conceptual shortcomings, and the
advancements on the international scene concerning cumulative impact assessment modelling
techniques under consideration of its application on Adriatic-Ionian Region.
Then, the new conceptual model for the CI ADRIPLAN 2 is presented, that aims to fill current
conceptual and modelling gaps of former CI ADRIPLAN 1 and that further integrates
Uncertainty (UA) and sensitivity analysis (SA) into its modelling procedure.
Moreover, the conceptual model was improved, through the application of models in a specific
context. In this sense, improvement occurred in the understanding of anthropogenic components
and natural components, the quantification of pressures and the sensitivities of the environmental
components towards different pressures.
Then the report presents the activities devoted to the improvement of the conceptual model
concerning the integration of Land-Based Activities (LBA). LBA refer to the anthropogenic
activities on land that are transferred to the marine environment. The LBA model takes into
account the most relevant pressures, their sources and the transfer from coast to the open sea
using hydrodynamic models for the Adriatic basin, taking into account pollution transport and
dispersion phenomena. Modelling results allowed to generate specific LBA pressure maps that
were integrated into the CI ADRIPLAN 2 model.
Finally a revised version of the cumulative impact assessment from antropogenic activities in the
Adriatic Region are presented.
