Dioctria keremza Richter

Small sized, dark, robust flies, 7.0–8.5 mm. Dioctria keremza is the most easily distinguished species of the genus Dioctria from South Korea by the overall jet black color, other species showing pale yellow markings on the thorax or abdomen.

Adult. Male.

Head. Bilaterally lobed antenna base descending to upper face; mid and lower portions with black and yellow tomentum. Mystax semicircular, with very sparse, long, yellow hair. Relative lengths of antennal segments: 3 + 4<1<2. 1st antennal segment less than 2 times as long as segment 2. Thorax shining black evenly covered in sparse fine yellow hair. Stripe of pale yellow tomentum on pleurae complete, anterior portion wide, running ventrally up from anterior margin of katepisternum, dorsally and laterally along anepisternal margins, terminating on posterior margin of katepisternum. Scutum shiny black, evenly covered with sparse yellow hair. Median and paramedian stripes vaguely defined. Chaetotaxy with: 3 supraalar black bristles. Scutellum black with sparse, fine, gold marginal hair. Legs yellow and black with fine yellow bristles and white hair. Coxae yellow with white hair. Fore and mid legs yellow; tarsomeres black. Hind tibia black, basal portion yellow; femur yellow; hind metatarsus slightly swollen. Wing: tinged black entirely, darker on anterior margin. Abdomen: Integumental black covered in fine, sparse yellow hair, surface punctate. Tergite 2 widest, flared, subsequent tergites narrower. Male genitalia (Figs 6–10) orange, pendulous, hanging beneath tergite 7, obscured dorsally. Gonopod (Figs 8, 9) widely rounded, robust; apically (Fig. 10); gonostylus lobate. Aedeagus stout, truncated with 2 slender endoaedeagi.

Female. Similar to male. Tergite 8 short, truncated with sharply angled apex. Tergite 9 greatly reduced and retracted within tergite 8. Cerci with stiff white hair.
