Description
Typhloiulus actunguis Ceuca, 1979
Typhloiulus actunguis Ceuca, 1979
Distribution. Known only from the type locality, Mt. Vlădeasa in the Apuseni Mts., northwestern Romania.
Remarks. The description of T. actunguis is based on a single female specimen. Surprisingly, Ceuca (1979) did not refer to T. serbani —a species he had described from caves in the Apuseni Mts earlier (Ceuca 1956). Both these species are comparatively small in size (less than 15 mm in length), however, they seem to differ from each other by the number of body rings— 43 in T. actunguis vs. maximum 35 in T. serbani. Furthermore, the only record of T. actunguis comes from a spruce forest, while T. serbani is most likely a troglobite.
