Description

Paul-Henri Thiry, Baron d'Holbach (1723–1789) published his masterpeace: The System of Nature or, the Laws of the Moral and Physical World (French: Système de la Nature ou Des Loix du Monde Physique et du Monde Moral) under the name of Jean-Baptiste de Mirabaud.  Système de la nature (System of Nature) is a philosophical work by Paul-Henri Thiry, Baron d'Holbach. In this second part of the book, Holbach expands on the ideas presented in the first part, discussing the laws of the physical and moral worlds. He advocates for a materialistic and atheistic worldview, rejecting religious explanations and proposing a deterministic understanding of nature. The book is known for its radical Enlightenment ideas and was considered controversial during its time for challenging prevailing religious and moral beliefs. d'Holbach devotes the entire second volume of Système de la nature to the defense of his understanding of atheism and his criticism of particular claims about God.
