Gadus merluccius Linnaeus, 1758: 254. Type locality: European ocean. Merluccius merluccius, Pisanty & Golani, 1995: 389.

Distribution. Eastern Atlantic, Mediterranean and southern coast of the Black Sea; depth range 30–1075 m.
