Percnon Gistel 1848

Description

Percnon sp.

(Fig. 2H)

Material examined. 1 megalopa (6.9 x 5.1 mm) (DABFUK), Kavaratti, 11 October 2014.

Remarks. The distinctive characters identifying the megalopa as a species of Percnon are the carapace outline, the three long rostral spines on the anterior of the carapace, and the short spines on the ventral (flexor) margin of the ambulatory dactyli. It resembles the megalopa of the Atlantic species, Percnon gibbesi (H. Milne Edwards, 1853) (cf. Paula & Hartnoll 1989: 31, fig. 11), but the carapace of the present specimen is much narrower and the legs are relatively longer. It is difficult to ascertain which of the two preceding, sympatric species of Percnon it belongs to, as megalopal differences between the species have not been documented.
