Description

Neomochtherus montanus (Hine)

Asilus montanus Hine, 1909: 149.

Recognition characters: gray species; length 13 mm; mystax with few bristly, mostly white setae and a few black ones above; thorax gray with mid-dorsal black stripe divided more anteriorly; scutellum with two black marginal bristles; wings clear hyaline; abdomen with grayish dust, most prominent on the posterior margins of the segments that are preceded by 2–3 small bristles; legs mostly reddish, anterior side of femora, apex of tibiae and tarsi fuscous.

Distribution: JOHNSON: S Fork of Crazy Woman Creek, 27 July 1964 (HBL) (specimen in CAS).

Habitat: Grama-needlegrass-wheatgrass vegetation type.

Ethology: Nothing known.

Prey: None known.
