Description

Scarus psittacus Forsskål in Niebuhr 1775 —Pale-nose parrotfish

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005; a video of a specimen taken off southern New Hanover at 4–51 m depth, St. KR 110, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Seychelles and Mascarenes east to Hawaiian and Marquesas islands, north to southern Japan, south to Shark Bay (Western Australia), Lord Howe Island and Rapa. Found on reef flats and in lagoon and seaward reefs, over corals, 0–25 m depth. Marine.
