Description

Sebastapistes cyanostigma (Bleeker 1856) —Yellow-spotted scorpionfish

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen observed at Nemto Island, New Hanover, 1–50 m depth, St. T 23, on 7 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Aldabra, Comores and Mauritius (Mascarenes) east to Mariana Islands and Phoenix Islands (Kiribati), north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, New Caledonia and Tonga. Found among branches of Pocillopora coral heads, 2–15 m depth. Marine.
