Hymenasplenium amoenum Ranil 2021, comb. nov.

Authors/Creators

Description

1. Hymenasplenium amoenum (C.Presl ex Mett.) Ranil comb. nov.

Basionym: Asplenium amoenum C.Presl ex Mett., (1859:131).

Type:— NEPAL, 1821, Wallich 209.1 (K, lectotype designated by Fraser-Jenkins, Taxon. Revis. Indian Subcontinental Pteridophytes 164 (2008))

Distribution:— Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Taiwan.

Note:—The African species, Hmenasplenium unilaterale (Lam.) Hayata, is widely misreported and confused from India and other parts of Asia in error for H. amoenum (Fraser-Jenkins, 2008; Fraser-Jenkins et., 2017). The nomenclatural ambiguity of A. amoenum has adequately discussed by Fraser-Jenkins (2008). According to him Asplenium amoenum C.Presl ex Mett. Ueb. Einig. Farngttungen 9:131 (1859) [Abhandl. Senckenb. Nat. Ges. 3 131 (1859)], was based on Asplenium laetum Wall., nom, nud., Num. List.: no 209, from Nepal, 1820, which Presl listed in Ten. Pterid.: 107 [not 108, as given by Mettenius] (1836), but did not describe.
