Romans 6:6c-7 - No Longer Slaves
Description
This paper is Chapter Six of my book Dead Men Rising: The Death of Sin and the Rise of Grace in Romans 6:1-14. Paul's wonderful passage has been obscured in recent centuries by good-intentioned but flawed teaching that has led many believers into confusion and frustration. My book, building upon an earlier work by Dr. J. Sidlow Baxter, clears away the rubble of misinterpretation and offers a fresh and simple approach to Paul's words that make sense of Scripture and ring true to life. In this chapter, we look at the phrase "no longer slaves" and how our freedom from slavery is the result of the crucifixion of the "old man" and the nullification of the "body of sin(ful evidence)" against us.
For those who have not read the previous chapters, I highly recommend that you download and read them to receive the full impact of Paul's words. Here are the titles:
Romans 6:1-3 – Shall We Continue in Sin?
Romans 6:1-10 – How Dead is Dead to Sin?
Romans 6:1-10 – Christ’s Death and Ours in Romans 6
Romans 6:6 – The Old Man of Romans 6
Romans 6:6b – Your Body of Sin Was Destroyed
As with the previous submissions, the numbering of footnotes begins where the previous chapter left off, but page numbers begin with "1." Some footnotes may not give full bibliographic information because they are contained in previous footnotes in previous chapters.
