Abraeus brunneus Broun 1881: 666.

Notes. Broun (1881) described this species in the genus Abraeus, comparing it to A. brouni, and noted that it had two to three varieties based on “several specimens, obtained chiefly in the neighbourhood of Whangarei Harbour; and, quite recently, I received another from Mr. P. Stewart, of Wellington.” Upon examination of a single type specimen from the BMNH, it is clearly congeneric with species that Bickhardt (1913) and Mazur (1984) placed into Parepierus (type species: P. amandus Schmidt [Indonesia and southeast Asia]), but this genus requires full revision, and the New Zealand species may eventually be described into a new genus (P. Kovarik, personal communication).
