Saccharodite bakeri Zelazny, sp. nov.

Description. Forewings 2.0 times longer than wide, length in male 3.0– 3.3 mm (mean = 3.2, n = 8). Colour stramineous; a light orange, longitudinal stripe along frons and clypeus; labium faintly tinted with red, apical segment bright red; fore femora each with 2 longitudinal red stripes; middle and hind femora with red marks; fore and middle tibiae, and apical part of hind tibiae orange; all tarsi bright red; abdomen stramineous, pleura of last 4 segments with red marks. Forewings glassy; very faintly infuscated from clavus tip to base of Ms1, around base of Ms2, and along apical crossveins; last subcostal sector accompanied by light red; veins stramineous, but last 2 subcostal sectors, Sc, parts of R and M, and all margins orange-red; 4 small dark spots on base of Sc+R. Hindwings colourless. In profile face very broad in front of eyes and antennae, junction of vertex and face slightly angulated. Forewings with Ms2 curved after basal third. Male genitalia with pygofer narrow. Genital styles oval; proximal dorsal process short and slender; distal dorsal process long. Apical part of aedeagus short, with a dorsal, longitudinal groove, the right side extending into a short, pointed tip.

Etymology. The species is named for C.F. Baker who greatly contributed to the knowledge of insects from the Philippines and Borneo, and ' bakeri ' is a latinized noun used in the genitive case.

Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 3.1 mm), EAST MALAYSIA: NORTH BORNEO: SABAH; labels: 1) BRITISH N. BORNEO / Tawau, Quoin Hill / 3–7.VII.1962 2) H. Holtmann / Light trap / BISHOP (BPBM). Paratypes. EAST MALAYSIA: NORTH BORNEO: SABAH: Tawau, Quoin Hill, Cocoa Res. Stn., 29.IX.1962, 1 ♂ (fw. 3.3), light trap, Y. Hirashima; same data as holotype, 3–20. VII.1962, 8 ♂ (fw. 3.0, 3.2, 3x 3.3); SE, Forest Camp, 19 km N of Kalabakan, 60 m, 16.XI.1962, 1 ♂ (fw. 3.2), Malaise trap, Hirashima (all BPBM).

Distribution. North Borneo.

Diagnosis. Saccharodite bakeri is closely related to Sa. rubirostrata Zelazny from the Philippines. However, it has a light orange longitudinal stripe along frons and clypeus, and the apical part of the male aedeagus ends in a short pointed tip and lacks a dorsal lobe covered with small teeth.
