Description
Diagnosis. The single species of the Saccharodite altissima species group can be recognized by the combination of the following characters:
1. Facial carinae separated.
2. Forewings with greatest width of basal cell between M and Sc+R nearly as broad as greatest width of basal median cell.
3. Forewings somewhat oval and elongated in shape with typical venation.
4. Forewings with sections of R after Sc + R fork and of M after the Ms2 fork with sensory pits.
5. In profile head evenly rounded at junction of vertex and face, produced in front of the subantennal processes.
Discussion. This species group is only represented by Saccharodite altissima from New Guinea. It comes close to the Saccharodite guamana species group but stands apart by the separated facial carinae which are produced in front of the subantennal processes.
