Levu elmohardyi Zelazny, sp. nov.

Description. Forewings 1.9 times longer than wide, length: male 4.1–4.6 mm, female 3.9–4.4 mm. Colour stramineous to light brown; margins of facial carinae, tibiae and tarsi faintly tinted with orange. Forewings white; a large dark mark around first subcostal sector; faintly infuscated around apex of basal median cell and distad of clavus tip; veins white to stramineous, apical cross-veins slightly darker. Rostrum surpassing hind-coxae; subantennal processes connected to margins of facial carinae. Forewings with Sc+R fork before middle of wing; Ms1 branched in its basal quarter, a triangle at base of Ms1. Male genital styles slightly truncated at the end; proximal dorsal process short, distal dorsal process elongated. Apical portion of aedeagus elongated and flat; the right side narrowing abruptly before apex and bearing a flat, dorsal lobe.

Etymology. The species is named for D. Elmo Hardy who collected the holotype and ' elmohardyi ' is a latinized noun used in the genitive case.

Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 4.1 mm), PAPUA NEW GUINEA; labels: 1) NEW GUINEA (NE):/ Waghi V., Kerowagi / area, 1700 m./ June 24, 1957 2) D. Elmo Hardy / Collector / Bishop Museum (BPBM). Paratypes. PAPUA NEW GUINEA: NE: W. Highlands: Baiyer R., 1150 m, 17.X.1958, 1 ♀ (fw. 3.9), J.L. Gressitt; Goiburung, E. of Korn Farm, 1560.1650 m, 16.X.1958, 1 ♀ (fw. 4.4), J.L. Gressitt; East Highlands, Aiyura, 1800–1900 m, 6.I.1965, 1 ♂ (fw. 4.6), J.+ M. Sedlacek; INDONESIA: WEST PAPUA: Vogelkop, Bomberai, 700–900 m, 5.VI.1959, 1 ♂, J.L. Gressitt (all BPBM).

Distribution. Island of New Guinea.

Diagnosis. Levu elmohardyi is characterized by the forewings bearing a conspicuous, dark mark around the first subcostal sector.
