Description

Dichotropis maai Zelazny, sp. nov.

Description. Forewing length about 4.3 mm. Colour stramineous, head and pronotum except labium dark orange; forewings colourless. Facial carinae clearly separated. Male anal segment with lateral finger-like processes. Genital styles narrow, oval, apex rounded; proximal dorsal process large, its tip curved inwards, and rounded in side view; distal dorsal process with a long, nearly rectangular base, close to proximal dorsal process, apical part slender; at the inside near the base a finger-like process bearing bristles at the tip. Apical portion of aedeagus in dorsal view broad, its end truncate; the left margin blade-like; right side shorter.

Etymology. The species is named for T.C. Maa who collected this species and ' maai ' is a latinized noun used in the genitive case.

Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 4.3 mm), INDONESIA: PAPUA, labels: 1) NEW GUINEA: NETH./ Bodem, 100 m, 11 km / SE of Oerberfaren / July 7–17, 1959 2) T. C. Maa / Collector / BISHOP (BPBM).

Distribution. New Guinea.

Diagnosis. Dichotropis maai shows similarities to D. peregrina sp. nov., also found in New Guinea. It can be distinguished by the orange head and pronotum, and by the male genital styles being oval in shape with the bases of the dorsal processes close together.
