  • for Brazil (H. caeca, H. montenegrinae, H. curvispina and H. meinerti) have wider distributions. H. meinerti has been recorded also for Venezuela, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador. It should also be noted that the type locality given by Stebbing (1906) and Pereira (1983) for H. meinerti is not Lagoa do Espino, Amazonas, Brazil, but instead is Laguna di Espino, Venezuela, which is written on the original holotype label.
  • Pereira (1983) suggested that H. longistila is a synonym of H. meinerti, however, the information provided in this work demonstrates that H. longistila is a valid species. The species included in this work are all characterized by the occurrence of sternal gills on peraeonites 2-7, with the exception of H. pseudoazteca which has sternal gills on peraeonites 3-7. Other characteristics include a slender female gnathopod 2, uropod 1 in male without curved setae on the inner margin of the inner ramus, and the ramus of uropod 3 is always longer than peduncle.
