Description
FIGURE 31. Schematic representation of the phylogeny of Messatoporus showing evolution of the character 85 in Analysis 2. Gray branches represent the ancestral state displayed at top right. The enlarged T7–8 (black branches) is a convergence with Gabuniina and may have evolved one or two times (black squares), with one reversion to the ancestral state (gray square). Triangles indicate clades with more than one terminal taxon; the black dumbell marks the "Ridges" group. The tree displayed in the figure was obtained from searches with K4.
