Chetogena Rondani 1856

Description

101. Chetogena Rondani, 1856: 68.

ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Tachina gramma Meigen, 1824.

TYPE SPECIES: Salia rondaniana Villeneuve, 1931, by fixation of O’Hara & Wood (2004: 145) under ICZN Code Article 70.3.2, misidentified as Tachina gramma Meigen, 1824 in the original designation by Rondani (1856: 68).

CURRENT STATUS: Valid genus [teste Herting & Dely-Draskovits (1993: 135)].

FAMILY: TACHINIDAE.

REMARKS: Verrall in Scudder (1882: 66) listed the spelling Chaetogena and attributed it to Rondani, but as a variant spelling of Chetogena Rondani, 1856. This same spelling in Brauer (1893: 518) is either an incorrect subsequent spelling or unjustified emendation (by virtue of similar spelling changes in two or more names from “e” to “ae” in the same work). We thus follow ICZN Code Article 33.5 in treating this spelling in Brauer (1893) as an incorrect subsequent spelling.

EMENDATIONS: Chaetogena Bezzi & Stein, 1907: 315 (unjustified), n. syn.
