Holcostethus abbreviatus Uhler 1872

Description

Holcostethus abbreviatus Uhler, 1872

Distribution: Canada: AB, BC, MN (Maw et al. 2000), NB (Ward et al. 1977), ON (Criddle 1921, Walley 1929, Maw et al. 2000, Paiero et al. 2013, Roch 2020), SK (Maw et al. 2000). United States: AZ, CA, CO, IA, ID, KS, MN (Rider 2012, Koch et al. 2014), MT, ND, NE, NM, NV, OK (Smith 1940a, b), OR, SD (Harris 1937), TX (Uhler 1876), UT, WA.

Comments: Previous records of this species from Michigan (McPherson 1970, Furth 1974) have been shown to be misidentifications of Holcostethus fulvipes (Ruckes 1957c) (McPherson 1979). The record from New Brunswick (Ward et al. 1977) needs confirmation. Froeschner (1988) also listed South Carolina, but we have not been able to locate this record; in any case, it would need verification.
