Alcaeorrhynchus grandis
Authors/Creators
Description
Distribution: United States: AL (Meeds & Bertone 2021), AR, FL, GA (McPherson et al. 1993, Meeds & Bertone 2021), KS (Packauskas 2012, Meeds & Bertone 2021), LA (Richman & Mead 1978, Meeds & Bertone 2021), MO (Sites et al. 2012), MS (Richmond 1962, Meeds & Bertone 2021), NC (Meeds & Bertone 2021), NM (Bundy 2012), OK (Chordas & McAllister 2019), SC (Meeds & Bertone 2021), TX. (Mexico, Central America, West Indies, South America)
Comments: Simons (1969) recorded this species from Alabama in an unpublished thesis, and there are also a number of recent photographs of this species from Alabama as well as South Carolina (Meeds & Bertone 2021). Barton & Lee (1981) reported two records of this species from Arkansas, but given the known distribution at that time, they speculated that these records might be incidental records; accordingly, Froeschner (1988) listed the Arkansas record with a question mark. This species has now been reported from Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma so the records from Arkansas might very well be valid.
