Valid name: Myotis fimbriatus (Peters, 1871)
Holotype (designated by Pohle 1943: 323): ZMB 4148, skin and skull (extracted in 1940), male; Amoy (= Xiamen, Fujian), China; collected by Swinhoe, July 1867, donated by Swinhoe between 20 March and 14 April 1870.
Paratypes (same locality, collector and date as for the holotype): ZMB 4147 and 4149 – 4151, four unsexed skins and skulls.
Comment: Pohle (1943: 321) suggested that one of three specimens in the BMNH collected by Swinhoe, identified by Dobson (1878: 299) as “type”, on the basis of identical data to that of specimens sent by the collector to Peters, has no nomenclaturial status. Corbet & Hill (1992: 125) considered two BMNH specimens of V. fimbritatus to be paratypes. The fimbriatus “type” specimen in the BMNH was, however, purchased from Swinhoe at a date after the species name was published by Peters.
