Diagnosis. Daternomina scissura resembles D. ikathan and D. bifida in the general shape of the inferior appendages in ventral view, but differs in the following fine detail: in ventral view, the inferior appendages length is less than the width, with a pair of relatively broad, rounded apices; in lateral view, sub-trapezoidal with parallel sides.

Description. Head pale, body and wings brown; wings similar to D. irrorata (Fig. 1) except fork 2 nygma absent. Forewing length about 3.0–3.2 times width: male 3.9–4.1 mm, female 4.5 mm. Forewing fork 2 relatively long, sessile, about 1.4–1.6 times length of fork 3; fork 3 relatively long, with footstalk, fork between 2.1–3.8 times length footstalk, footstalk between 1.3–2.6 times length cross-vein m; r-m and m separated at fork 3 by about 1.0–1.3 times length of cross-vein m; fork 4 shorter than fork 3; fork 5 long, about 1.8 times length of fork 4. Hindwing length about 3.1–3.3 times width, fork 2 sessile, length about 1.6–1.8 times length of fork 3.

Male. Tergum X membranous, short (Fig. 54). Superior appendages laterally compressed; in lateral view robust, sub-rectangular, length about 2.5 times width (Fig. 52); in dorsal view, relatively slender, length about 4 times width, with row of small processes on mesal margin in distal half, each with apical spiny setae (Fig. 54); two pairs of processes at base of superior appendages, a more dorsal, longer, straighter pair with small spines distally and a more ventral, shorter incurved pair. Phallus simple, tube-like, with several spines embedded subapically; with a single, down-curved process (phallic guide) arising from near the base of the inferior appendages (Fig. 52). Inferior appendages robust, strongly dorso-ventrally flattened, slightly shorter than superior appendages; in ventral view fused in basal quarter to form a single plate, distal three quarters separated narrowly by a deep mesal split, with pair of broadly rounded apices (Fig. 53); in lateral view robust, length about 2.5 times width, sub-trapezoidal, with parallel sides, narrowed at distal third (Fig. 52).

Female. Genitalia with a pair of large, semi-triangular, narrowly separated ‘tongue-shaped’ lobes on sternite VIII (Fig. 62).

Etymology. Scissura- Latin word for split (inferior appendages).

Remarks. Daternomina scissura is recorded from many sites in north-eastern Queensland (latitudinal range 17°16'- 18°57' S).
