TYPE LOCALITY: “ Lestrem and Beéthune [Lestrem and Beéthune (France)]” (Macquart 1851b: 426) [locality for Phorocera pumicata (Meigen, 1824) sensu Macquart (1851)]; “ in agri parmensis [Parmese territory (Italy)]” (Rondani 1859b: 167) [type locality for Phorocera cilipeda Rondani, 1859].
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, lectotype (terminalia and abdomen in a microvial pinned below specimen) (MZUF: Box 12): Phorocera Mgn. / cilipeda Rnd., ♂ / Lectotypus cilipeda Rondani, P. Cerretti 2002 / 599.
PARALECTOTYPE EXAMINED: 1 ♂ (terminalia in a microvial pinned below specimen, missing both fore- and mid-legs) (MZUF: Box 12): Phorocera Mgn. / cilipeda Rnd., ♂ / 599.
PARALECTOTYPE NOT EXAMINED: 2 ♀♀ (one missing both fore-legs and left mid- and hind-legs) (MZUF: Box 12): Phorocera Mgn. / cilipeda Rnd., ♀ / 599; 1 specimen (sex not determinable, missing abdomen and left hind-leg) (MHNL: Macquart’s Collection, Box 22): G. Phorocera Meig. / P. pumicata; 1 ♂ (missing right mid-leg, thorax and abdomen partially eaten by dermestids) (MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Phorocera cilipeda Rnd. 59 ♂ ♀ Parma / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 1, posiz. CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Pales pavida (Meigen, 1824) (Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 234).
REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 167) proposed Phorocera cilipeda for Phorocera pumicata (Meigen, 1824) sensu Macquart (1851b: 426), which he considered a new species. Rondani referred to Macquart’s redescription of Phorocera pumicata, which was based on an unspecified number of specimens, and to an unspecified number of specimens in his collection. Therefore, the type material of Phorocera cilipeda Rondani is in the collections of Macquart (MHNL) and Rondani (MZUF). Cerretti (2004: 231) designated a lectotype (♂) and paralectotype (♂) in the MZUF but did not mention an additional five specimens: two in the MZUF, one in the MHNL and two in the MSNC (all are paralectotypes).
