Atherigona soccata Rondani, 1871
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1871a: 332.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Etruria [Etruria (= Tuscany, Italy)]”.
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype (missing fore- and left mid-legs) (MZUF: Box 24): Atherigona Rndn. / soccata Rnd., ♀, Etruria / 1273.
CURRENT STATUS: valid species (Pont 1986b: 114, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 12).
REMARKS: Rondani (1871a: 332) described Atherigona soccata from just the female sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ Semel foeminam legit in Etruria D. Piccioli [the female once collected in Etruria by D. Piccioli]”. We found one syntype in this study.
