Neurolyga fenestralis Rondani 1840

Description

Neurolyga fenestralis Rondani, 1840

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1840b: 24.

TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but presumably it is Parma because he wrote “ legi in fenestris domus collinae [I collected it on the windows of the house on the hill]” and the work deals with Italian species.

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, lectotype (head, thorax, three legs and wings on a slide) (MZUF: “ Diptera Rondani 4: n° 12” ex Box 65): 3317 / ♀ ex cass. 65, collezione Rondani, mounted XI.1994, Gagné/Malikul, Can. Balsam / Neurolyga fenestralis Rondani, lectotype (to be desig. by Jaschhof).

PARALECTOTYPES NOT EXAMINED: 1 ♀, 2 specimens (sex not determinable, head and abdomen damaged) (MZUF: Box 65): Neuroliga [sic!] Rnd. / fenestralis / 3317; 1 ♂ (abdomen partially destroyed) (OUMNH Verrall-Collin Coll.: Box. 21): syntype / Type / Neurolyga fenestralis Rondani Type Parma / N. fenestralis Ex. Coll. Bigot; 1 ♀ (missing fore left-leg; antennae partially destroyed) (OUMNH Verrall-Collin Coll.: Box. 21): syntype / Type / Neurolyga fenestralis Rondani Type, Parma / N. fenestralis Ex. Coll. Bigot.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Campylomyza fenestralis (Skuhravá, 1986: 88; Dahl et al., 1995: 25); valid species, as Neurolyga fenestralis (Gagné 2010: 34, Gagné & Jaschhof 2017: 47).

REMARKS: Rondani (1840b: 24) described Neurolyga fenestralis without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, despite there being four specimens in the type series found in this study. Gagné & Solinas (1996: 72) reported four MZUF females numbered “3317”. Jaschhof (1998: 194) designated a lectotype (♀) but did not mention the other MZUF and OUMNH syntypes (all are paralectotypes).
