Description

21. Myrcia guianensis (Aubl.) De Candolle (1828: 245); McVaugh (1969: 93–95) [Fig. 3P. Fig. 6B–C]

Occurs from Trinidad to Paraguay (Govaerts et al. 2010) and is widely distributed in Brazil (Sobral et al. 2010).

Trees and shrubs 3–8 m tall. This species differs from other Myrcia species by having leaves 3.0–7.5 × 1.5–3.5 cm, a flat or raised midvein on the adaxial lamina surface, lanceolate bracts, linear bracteoles, rounded and unequal calyx lobes, 3 larger (2 mm long), 2 shorter (1 mm long), a 3-locular ovary and subglobose fruits.
