Redesigning Papertrack, the MAST Bibliography Tracking Tool

The Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes (MAST) released in 2019 a re-write of its Papertrack bibliography tracking software. This software harvests bibliographic data from the Astrophyics Data System (ADS) and performs full-text searches on papers to identify publications of potential relevance to each MAST mission. STScI astronomers and bibliographers then use Papertrack to populate a database of professional publications relating to astronomical missions hosted at MAST, including those from Hubble Space Telescope, classifying each paper according to the extent to which it is based on MAST science data and adding metadata about datasets used. Papertrack data is used to measure the science impact of MAST data and is part of key reporting to stakeholders. It is used to enrich search results in MAST data discovery interfaces as well as to populate bibliographic groups ("bibgroups") that allow MAST-related publications to be discovered in ADS. The new version of the software takes advantage of the updated ADS API and includes improvements to the automation and data model parts of the application. We present the design and implementation of this system, including lessons learned and planned future improvements.
