This dataset contains the updated livestock methane emission for the period 1961-2024 using methods from Chang, J., Peng, S., Yin, Y., Ciais, P., Havlik, P., Herrero, M. (2021). The key role of production efficiency changes in livestock methane emission mitigation. AGU Advances, 2, e2021AV000391. DOI: https://doi. org/10.1029/2021AV000391
Updates:
1) Livestock data from 1961-2023 from FAOSTAT were used
2) Livestock data of 2024 for Australia, Brazil, China, and EU were used, while the 2024 livestock values for other regions/countries were extrapolated from the trend of previous 5 years
3) GLW4 livestock distribution for 2010, 2015, and 2020 were used for downscale emissions; for years between 2010 and 2015 and between 2015 and 2020, linear interpolation is applied; for years before 2010, 2010 distribution is used; for years after 2020, 2020 distribution is used
