Asteroseismic Signatures of Stellar Mergers
Description
We have included the inlists, important run files, and selected simulation data accompanying Rui and Fuller 2021 (“Asteroseismic Fingerprints of Stellar Mergers”), which makes use of Modules for Experiments in Stellar Astrophysics (MESA) version r12778. In the main directory, we include the run_star_extras.f file, which has been modified to model stellar mergers (see Appendix A for details), as well as the history_columns.list and profile_columns.list files, which control simulation write out. For each simulation in the paper, we additionally include the inlist_project file, history.data file, and a selected profile.data file which, unless otherwise specified, contains the stellar profile captured at 60 solar luminosities. The contents of the subdirectories (and relevance to work) containing these run files are summarized below:
- single: Single star models of varying mass.
- rg+ms: Mergers between red giants and main sequence stars where the merger occurs when the red giant is on the lower RGB (Section 3.3 & Figure 5, left panel).
- ms+ms: Mergers between two main sequence stars where the merger occurs when the primary is at half of its age when it depletes its core hydrogen (Section 3.3 & Figure 5, right panel).
- time: 1.5+1.0 solar mass red giant plus main sequence mergers, where the time of merger is varied (Section 3.2 & Figure 3).
- clump: Models where the star has been evolved through the red clump (Section 3.4 & Figure 6). For these simulations, the included profile.data file is evaluated after the helium flash, when the central helium fraction has depleted to 50%).
- sorted: A 1.5+1.0 solar mass red giant plus main sequence model which uses the native create_merger_model option in MESA (Section 3.2).
