Description

Mary Anning nasceu em 20 de maio de 1799, na pequena vila costeira de Lyme Regis, em Devon, na baía de Lyme, sudoeste da Inglaterra. Nomeada em homenagem à irmã, que havia morrido cinco meses antes dela nascer. Juntamente com o irmão Joseph (1796-1849) foi a única filha de Mary Moore (conhecida como Molly) e Richard Anning a chegar à idade adulta (Torrens, 1995).
