Description

Arctoseiini Evans, 1963

Type genus: Arctoseius Thor, 1930.

Diagnosis. Adult dorsal shield entire, often parallel-sided, with or without lateral incisions. Idiosomal setae simple. Sternal or sternitigenital shield consolidated or not with endopodal sclerites between coxae I–II and II–III, and usually with free endopodal strips between coxae III–IV. Females with free metapodal platelets and anal shield bearing only three circumanal setae (as an exception, anal shield of Arctoseius magnanalis Evans, 1958 with one pair of opisthogastric setae). Male with ventrianal shield incorporating metapodal platelets or not, rarely with ventral and anal shields. Peritreme of varying length, sometimes long and sharply curved anteriorly, its margins smooth. Subcapitulum with deutosternum wide or of moderate width, with setae weakly differing in length. Palp trochanter setae similar in size. Palp tarsus sometimes with distinct apical macroseta. Genu III with only seven setae (lacking pv -1). Male spermatodactyl short or of middle length; tube-like, rarely undulate or spoon-like. Tarsus I with claws. None of setae on tarsi II to IV conspicuously differentiated by thinness, elongation, or curved shape (as an exception, males of several Arctoseius species have some ventral setae modified, thickened on tarsus and femur II). Genera included: Arctoseius, Iphidozercon.
