Diagnosis. Dorsal colouration differing from that of As. circumdata and As. ovalis in having paler brown elytra with darker brown markings restricted to base and apex; elytra of impressa type brownish with narrowly paler lateral margin and very narrowly pale suture and only elytral bases darker brown (Fig. 165); pronotum either entirely pale yellow (in humeralis type Fig. 154, Nilgiri Hills and S. Malabar specimens), with paired median brown spots (in impressa type Fig. 167), or completely brownish (in notatipennis syntype Fig. 157). Differing from As. circumdata in having bipartite LOs in V7 (Fig. 158). Apart from the dorsal colouration As. humeralis comb. nov. is distinguished most obviously by the aedeagal sheath tergite which is emarginated on its right side, and the distal apex of the sheath sternite which is obliquely truncate (Figs 161, 162).

Remarks. The synonymy established here was suggested by Olivier as a note in his collection at MNHN (LB examination 2013). The emarginations of abdominal T8 (emarginate on its inner right side) and that of the sheath tergite (emarginate on its inner left side) suggest an easier egress for the aedeagus dorsally.

We now know of four species having a pale yellowish or pale brown dorsum with darker markings at base and apex. Atyphella telokdalam sp. nov. is known only from Sumatra, while Aty. palauensis is from the Republic of Palau. Luciola flavescens (Boisduval) from ‘Oceanie’ is included in species incertae sedis.

Wijekoon et al. (2016) confirmed the occurrence of both L. humeralis and L. impressa in Sri Lanka and recognised them both as belonging to Asymmetricata. They also recorded L. doriae but made no comment about its possible position.
