A portion of the المبسوط, or system of Ḥanafite Law, by Shams al-a’immah Abu Bakr Muḥammad b. (Aḥmad b.) Abu Sahl SARAKHSÎ (d. A.H. 490 or 500), who dictated the whole work during his imprisonment at Ûzjand. See on it Ḥ, Kh. v. 363, and on the author, Flügel, Class. d. hanafite. Rechtsgel., p. 303, and also Hdss. Wien, iii. 201.

This seems to be the only fragment of the work extant. It is said to be the ninth volume, and contains the following books, each of which is subdivided into chapters: العتق فی المرض (fol. 53); العین و الدین الدور (fol. 79v.); الفرائض (fol. 97v.); فرائض الخنثی (fol. 161v.); الخنثی (fol. 166); حساب الوصایا (fol. 170v.); الشروط (fol. 190v.); الحِیَل (fol. 205v.); الکسب (fol. 218); الرضاع(fol. 235). The name of the author is introduced at the commencement of each book, together with the notice, that it is his dictate. The last book is dated Thursday, 22^nd Jum. II., 477.

Beginning: کتاب العین و الدین قال الشیخ الامام الاجلّ الزاهد شمس الائمّة و فخر الاسلام ابوبکر محمد بن ابی سهل السرخسی رحمه الله املآ اعلم بان مسائل هذا الکتاب و ترتیبها من عمل محمد بن الحسن رحمه الله.

Written in a large hand.+ Dated 25^th Jum. I., 1150. The beginning and end are worm-eaten.
