This document summarises the background for changes proposed in the masonry chapter of EC8 – Part 1-2 with regard to the current version of EC8 – Part 1 (2004). Note that separate background documents exist for drift capacities of URM walls, behaviour factors and slenderness limits and the design of simple buildings.
