Haemaphysalis ornithophila Hoogstraal and Kohls 1959

Description

114. Haemaphysalis ornithophila Hoogstraal and Kohls, 1959.

An Oriental and Palearctic species, all of whose parasitic stages, including the undescribed larva, have been found on Galliformes: Phasianidae; adults and nymphs have been collected from Passeriformes: Turdidae, adults alone have been recovered from Passeriformes: Pittidae, Chloropseidae and Turdidae; Artiodactyla: Bovidae, Carnivora: Mustelidae, and Lagomorpha: Leporidae (Guglielmone et al. 2014, Kuo et al. 2017). There are no records of Haemaphysalis ornithophila causing human parasitism.

Note: Guglielmone et al. (2014) stated that the nymph of Haemaphysalis ornithophila is undescribed, but this stage was described in Geevarghese and Mishra (2011), as shown in Guglielmone et al. (2015).
