Amblyomma komodoense

Description

64. Amblyomma komodoense (Oudemans, 1928b).

An Australasian species known only to parasitize Squamata: Varanidae.

M: Oudemans (1928b), under the name Aponomma komodoense and given its current status in Horak et al. (2002) F: Warburton (1933), under the name Aponomma draconis, a synonym of Amblyomma komodoense

N: undescribed

L: unknown

Redescriptions

M: Whittick (1939), Anastos (1950), Kaufman (1972) and Santos Dias (1993), all under the name Aponomma komodoense; see note below

F: Whittick (1939), Anastos (1950), Kaufman (1972) and Santos Dias (1993), all under the name Aponomma komodoense

Note: Camicas et al. (1998) list Amblyomma komodoense as an Australasian and Oriental species, but according to Guglielmone et al. (2014) it is an Australasian tick. Anastos (1950) supports the opinion of Whittick (1939), stating that coxa I of the male of Amblyomma komodoense has two spurs and not one, as depicted in the original description in Oudemans (1928b), a view also supported by Kaufman (1972).
