Hyalomma lusitanicum Koch 1844

Description

17. Hyalomma lusitanicum Koch, 1844a.

A Palearctic species whose adults are usually found on Artiodactyla: Bovidae; larvae and nymphs are commonly recovered from Lagomorpha: Leporidae (together with a few adult ticks). Adults and nymphs have occasionally been taken from Mammalia (several orders), and Galliformes: Phasianidae; adult ticks alone have rarely been found on Passeriformes: Fringillidae, Strigiformes: Strigidae, and Struthioniformes: Struthionidae; and larvae and nymphs have been collected from Passeriformes: Turdidae. Hyalomma lusitanicum is a sporadic parasite of humans.
