A selection of Traditions from the Prophet, made by order of Tippu, by ‘ABD AL-RAḤMÂN B. ‘ABD-AL-MÂLIK.
It is derived from the six canonical collections, and divided into ninety-two chapters, according to the numerical value of the name محمد, and hence entitled الجامع المحمدی. Cf. Stewart’s Catal. 157, xeiii. (?). The text is accompanied by a Persian interlinear translation.
Begins:
نحمدک اللهم و المحامد راجعة الیک.... و امّا بعد فیقول العبد المفتقر الی رحمة الله تعالی عبد الرحمن بن شیخ العارفین عبدالمالک غفر الله ذنوبهما لمّا اشار السلطان الاعظم و الخاقان الاعلم الاکرم..... السلطان المنصور المؤیّد تیپو سلطان غازی قریشیٌّ نسبًا.....الی انتخاب احادیث سید الانام علی عدد اسم المحمدیّ (sic) علیه الصلوة و السلام لفوائد جمهور اهل الاسلام فاقتبستُ من مصابیح الصحاح الستّة احادیث و اخبارًا و من آیات کلام الله انوارا....فسمّیته بجامع المحمّدی (sic) الخ
The first chapters treat of the holy war.
Written in large plain hand, the Persian interlineation in Nasta’liḳ. Preceded by a list of contents in Persian (foll. 1-2).
