Distribution. Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Panama, Peru, Surinam, Venezuela.

Remarks. Captive breeding efforts have revealed the true female of this species to be virtually indistinguishable from that of A. armata (De Haan, 1842) (Fig. 38). The males are also very similar, sharing the very broad cerci, the shortened tegmina (with respect to the alae), and the infumated hindwings without yellow markings. In the male of A. guianensis, the smoky area of the hindwing covers only the distal half, while it extends to the base in A. armata (Fig. 37). Females, on the other hand, are not unambiguously distinguishable at the moment. The ones studied by us differ from those of A. armata only in the yellow markings on the hindwing being more checkered and less clearly offset from the infumate parts.

A. guianensis is one of the most widespread species of the genus, ranging from Costa Rica to southern Amazonia. Males are commonly collected at the study site.
