Description

Cracca virginiana Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 752. 1753.

"Habitat in Virginia, Canada." RCN: 5562.

Basionym of: Galega virginiana (L.) L. (1759).

Lectotype (Wood in Rhodora 51: 267. 1949): Kalm, Herb. Linn. No. 924.4 (LINN; iso- UPS).

Current name: Tephrosia virginiana (L.) Pers. (Fabaceae: Faboideae).

Note: Britten & Baker (in J. Bot. 29: 12-19. 1900) provide a detailed study of the two species included within Linnaeus’ concept of this name and present a synonymy (with accepted names subsequently reversed, l.c.: 53). However, they did not designate a type.
