Description

Azalea pontica Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 150. 1753.

"Habitat in Ponto, Trapezunte." RCN: 1194.

Lectotype (Kron in Edinburgh J. Bot. 50: 315. 1993): [icon] " Chamaerhododendros Pontica maxima, Mespili folio, flore luteo " in Buxbaum, Pl. Minus Cognit. Cent. 5: 36, t. 69. 1740.

Current name: Rhododendron luteum Sweet (Ericaceae).
