Description

Pothos latifolius Linnaeus, Herbarium Amboinense: 25. 1754.

"Habitat [in Amboina.]" RCN: 7019.

Lectotype (Merrill, Interpret. Rumph. Herb. Amb.: 33, 125. 1917; Boyce & Hay in Telopea 9: 562. 2001): [icon] " Adpendix arborum " in Rumphius, Herb. Amboin. 5: 483, t. 181, f. 1. 1747.

Current name: Piper sp. (Piperaceae).

Note: Boyce & Hay disagree with Merrill’s interpretation of the cited Rumphius plate, excluding t. 181, f. 2 (which is a Pothos), and follow Roxburgh in restricting the Linnaean name to t. 181, f. 1, which they identify as a species of Piper (Piperaceae). Although they wrongly accept Roxburgh’s implicit typification, their statement that it is "here confirmed" is accepted as a formal typification (Art. 7.11).
