Description

Piper nigrum Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 28. 1753.

Lectotype (Huber in Dassanayake & Fosberg, Revised Handb. Fl. Ceylon 6: 283. 1987): Herb. Hermann 3: 21; 4: 11, No. 26 (BM).

Generitype of Piper Linnaeus (vide Hitchcock in Amer. J. Bot. 10: 513. 1923).

Current name: Piper nigrum L. (Piperaceae).

Note: Huber’s type choice is of material from a single gathering, but distributed between two of Hermann’s bound volumes, so the typification is valid under Art. 9.15.
