Description
Tremella verrucosa Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 1158. 1753.
"Habitat supra Lapides in rivulis." RCN: 8260.
Lectotype (Irvine & Pentecost in Spencer & al. in Taxon, in press): [icon] "Tremella fluviatilis gelatinosa & uterculosa" in Dillenius, Hist. Musc.: 54, t. 10, f. 16. 1741. - Voucher: Herb. Dillenius (OXF).
Current name: Nostoc commune Vaucher (Nostocaceae).
Note: In the absence of any material in LINN, Drouet (in Beih. Nova Hedwigia 57: 26. 1978) designated material in Herb. Dillenius (OXF) as a neotype. However, the existence of original material for the name means that Drouet’s neotype choice is contrary to Art. 9.11 (see Spencer & al. in Taxon, in press).
