Echium orientale Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 139. 1753.

"Habitat in Oriente." RCN: 1129.

Lectotype (Mill in Cafferty & Jarvis in Taxon 53: 802. 2004): [icon] " Echium Orientale verbasci folio flore maximo, Campanulato " in Tournefort, Rel. Voy. Levant (Paris ed.) 2: 247, 248. 1717.

Current name: Echium orientale L. (Boraginaceae).

Note: Tournefort’s description was discussed in some detail by Burtt (in Karaca Arbor. Mag. 6: 138-139. 2002) who also (l.c. 6: 60, f. 13. 2001) reproduced an illustration of the subsequently designated lectotype.
