Description
Holcus lanatus Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 1048. 1753.
"Habitat in Europae pascuis arenosis." RCN: 570.
Lectotype (Cope in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 54. 1993): Herb. Linn. No. 1212.10 (LINN).
Generitype of Holcus Linnaeus, nom. cons.
Current name: Holcus lanatus L. (Poaceae).
Note: Although Kerguélen (in Lejeunia, n.s., 75: 193. 1975) indicated unspecified material in LINN as type, this is not accepted as an effective typification (Art. 7.11). See Cafferty & al. (in Taxon 49: 240. 2000) for a detailed explanation.
